Can we please stop looking for things to be offended by?

Is there any reason to go through life with a chip on your shoulder and constantly looking for slights or perceived slights?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20080109/sp_wl_afp/golfuspgawoods

"in a television commentator’s comment that any golfer trying to test him might have to "lynch him in a back alley", Woods’ agent said in a statement. "

"The Golf Channel’s Kelly Tilghman made the comment during coverage of the US PGA Tour season-opening event in Hawaii on Friday while joking with English analyst Nick Faldo about Woods, who was not playing at the tournament."

There is nothing remotely racist or offensive about this comment, unless of course you’re looking to be offended.

If you are the latter, grow up and do the world a favor.
If you still focus on something someone said in jest 10 years ago….seek help.

Fuzzy Zoeller’s comment was intentionally rude and was intentionally meant as it was said. He has a very poor sense of humor.

This woman’s comments were in no way meant to be offensive and if you heard the broadcast you would know it was actually a compliment being paid to Woods. She was saying nobody could beat him on the course.

But feel free to spin, spin, spin in a life of misery.

Its easy to be offended by soundbytes and clips.
And she has since apologized, but only because that specific 3 second clip is continually repeated.

If the full broadcast were repeated, it would be easily seen as to what it was.

Continue to take life out of context and you will continue to be dissappointed.
I am half hispanic and half white, one of favorite jokes when it comes to race is called "mexican style."

A mexican walks up to a stripper and asks her, "do you do ‘mexican style’?"

She wonders what that is and asks him. He just says "its nothing too dirty or anything, just our way of doing it."

So she thinks about it, she says to herself that after 10 years she’s done and seen it all so it cannot be that bad, so she agrees to do it for a $100.

After an hour of going at it (cleaned up for yahoo) while they are laying there catching their breath she starts to get dressed. She asks for her $100 and he says, "I’ll put se check in se mail on toosdey"
Actually, this woman has known Tiger and they are friends for the last 12 years.

You are reading much more into her comments than what was intended by the conversation.

Yes, I know plenty about the racial struggles of minorities in America.

Everthing outside of point number one in your post has nothing to do with the what she said. Those are merely justifications you use to feel offended by this statement.

To each their own…..I suggest you read some of my answers if you would like to see where I am coming from…..other wise don’t assume you know me nor judge me.

you’re right. let’s also forget what Fuzzy Zoeller said about him, too. after all, Tiger didn’t have fried chicken, collard greens, and watermelon at his Master’s Celebration anyway.

You don’t seem to know US history. There are a few things that bring back bad memories for black people in this country and there is a solid basis for her not to use that term as she did.

    (1) Lynching: Numerous black people, specifically black men were lynched in the US, mostly in the south by whites who went unpunished. It was so commonplace that it brought fear in the hearts of blacks and it still does. Just speak to any elderly black person who was raised in the south. To say "lynch" conjures up murder, prejudice, disregard for a black person because of this history.

    (2) Dogs were frequently sicced on black people in the south. To this day, many black people still harbor ill feelings and anger if someone talks about siccing a dog on them.

    (3) Water hoses were used to demobilize and injure black
    people.

    (4) Black people had to step off the sidewalk if a white person wanted to walk on the sidewalk.

    (5) A black man could not walk near or look at a white woman. If he did, he would be charged with "eye rape." As a result, numerous black men were jailed and lynched or killed by white men for those accusations.

This forum is not adequate enough to enlighten you about all the reasons why blacks respond in a certain manner to certain words or actions. However, if you and many other whites knew US history you would see why it was an offensive statement. Sadly, this young woman is probably as dense and unenlightened as many others who now defend her.

    to bombastic.

so are you saying if someone on tv says get the hose and water your garden blacks will get offended?

are you saying that when cops send in a k-9 unit to get a bad guy and the bad guy just happens to be black the cops are racist?

are you saying only blacks were lynched in this country?

people of all genders and races have been lynched in this country so its not a racist term!!
